Children experience the spotlight, the pure magic of dancing and performing. Everything is FUN and children learn tap, ballet (little ones only), theatre craft/stage, street/freestyle/pop dance, singing and drama as we prepare for optional exams and to dance and perform on the stage!
The syllabi we use have been devised to provide a strong foundation for future dance training that is appropriate and relevant to young children of today. Fun to do and rewarding to teach, these syllabi help to develop children’s physical skills, stamina, creativity, expression and musicality using a range of sounds and musical styles. For example in tap alone children love the sound of their shoes as they learn rhymes, coordination and improve their listening skills!
As the children move up to the afternoon slot it becomes more funky and intense. 3 hours of fun packed dancing with a bit of singing and acting! A fusion of all kinds of music and dance styles, Musical Theatre takes you to inspirational heights. The spotlight’s on you!
Every year is different as we tune into the children and create a show focusing on their strengths and interests and perform in a professional theatre! We focus half on technique and half on choreography. Dedicated children may also take exams.
Tap is rhythm – rhythm is tap. It’s origins are many and varied. Americans claim it’s origin dates from the African Jazz age. The Irish stake their claim to the jigs and step dancing. The English relate back to northern clog dancers, but whichever one you choose to believe, tap is as popular today as it was in the heyday of the great Fred Astaire and Gene Kelly musicals. Evergreen shows, 42nd Street and Crazy For You, and the more recent Stomp and Tap Dogs highlight the great diversities of style and music in tapping.
Drama and Singing
The goal of this programme is to build enthusiasm, confidence, self-esteem, communication skills, social skills, confidence on the stage and to, of course, be lots of fun! Children will love the drama games and age-appropriate improvisations, as well as singing and a bit of script.
Theatre Craft / Stage
This most exciting dance form encompasses the wide spectrum of productions that are Musical Theatre. Shows like Grease, My Fair Lady, Bombay Dreams, The Lion King etc, are all diverse styles, but all embraced by the theatre craft title. A dance form for theatrical performance, preparing the body physically through exercise, and stimulating artistic ability through dance movement, improvisation and interpretation of music. The use of hand props, make up and much more – it provides all the ‘must have’ qualities for today’s amateur and professional dancer.
